Fed Cup Preview: Switzerland v Canada

Switzerland v Canada, who will progress to the Fed Cup finals in Budapest?

A big tie between Switzerland and Canada is set to take place this weekend, where some top names are set to do battleđŸ’ª

The Canadian and Swiss Fed Cup Teams

Switzerland have selected a strong team with Belinda Bencic and Jil Teichmann set to play the singles rubbers. For Canada, unfortunately Bianca Andreescu won’t be returning to singles action for the first time this year as she recovers from the knee injury she sustained at the WTA Finals. This means that Genie Bouchard and Leylah Annie Fernandez will be the players who are involved in the singles.

Unfortunately, Bianca Andreescu (in the beanie), will not be playing singles
There could be a decisive doubles if both teams were to split the 4 singles matches. Doubles Specialist Gaby Dabrowski and possibly the return of Bianca for the first time in 2020. Switzerland have selected Viktorija Golubic and Stefanie Vögele for the doubles but things can all change up until an hour before the matches take place.

It’s set to be a cracking tie with the hosts, Switzerland starting as favourites due to Canada missing their best player in the singles rubbers. You can never write off the Canadians though as Genie has a very good record when it comes to fed cup ties and they also have a supreme talent in Leylah!

My prediction ahead of this tie is that Switzerland will progress to the finals in Budapest. It will be a tight match between the two nations but I think the Swiss will prevail 3-1.

The first match is set to take place tomorrow (7th February) at 2pm local time! (8am Canada, 1pm GB)

Friday:
Fernandez vs Teichmann
Bouchard vs Bencic

Teichmann plays Fernandez in the first match of the tie.
Saturday:
Fernandez vs Bencic
Bouchard vs Teichmann
Andreescu/Dabrowski vs Golubic/Vögele

Bencic v Bouchard is likely to be the best match of the weekend.
